White European Box Gutters on Modern Home
This amazing project was an installation of seamless, aluminum, white European Box gutters, with matching square/box downspouts. This home in Nashville chose a custom gutter design, replacing relatively new K-style gutters, to better match the home’s design sensibilities.

Project Scope
This modern Nashville home features white-on-white-on-white European Box gutters and square downspouts crafted from durable .032 gauge aluminum enhancing the home’s architecture.
Leveraging the homeowner’s interior design expertise, we ensured the gutter system was aesthetically integrated with the home’s unique features, including a rounded chimney and a specially designed downspout system with seamless elbows.
Despite challenges such as a flat roof and limited clearance by a concrete awning, we meticulously delivered on the client’s vision.
Project Notes
- We transitioned from the old K-style gutters to the new Euro Box design to better match the home’s architecture. While the older gutters were relatively new, the fresh design is a superior aesthetic match.
- Challenges faced: The home’s flat roof presented certain challenges. Specifically, it was necessary to work under a rubber membrane to set the gutters, which differs from common pitched roofs.
- Special tools and materials: The use of rivets instead of screws provided a cleaner look. Furthermore, all miters were meticulously handcrafted and manually tabbed for precision.

European Box Gutter
- Type: 6” European Box Gutter
- Material: Aluminum
- Color: White
- Thickness: .032 inches
On residential homes, aluminum box gutters are typically .027″ in thickness. However, with a .032″ gauge, the thicker material is specifically used to reduce the risk of oil canning. Oil canning is when metal can ripple (or wave) over time, but the thicker material helps ensure the flat face of the Euro gutters retains its integrity over time.

Custom Box Downspouts
- Type: Square/Box, rivets only (no screws)
- Material: Aluminum
- Color: White
- Dimensions: 3″ x 4″
As you might envision with a white European Box system, we chose complementary white box downspouts. Typically, you use screws on downspouts, but this project used rivets to create a smooth, up-scale look.
Technically, there are no elbows on this project. The downspouts and elbows are actually one piece of metal. Instead of joining downspouts to separate elbows (premade, prefab elbows), angles are cut out of a single piece of downspout metal, then the entire downspout is bent to create the elbow angles.
Final Notes:
- The homeowner is an experienced interior designer! Collaborating with someone with that experience was a rewarding experience. We had amazing discussions on the aesthetics and how the gutter system should blend seamlessly with the house’s architecture.
- The downspouts were uniquely tailored. Instead of using separate elbows, which are typical in standard designs, the downspout pipe itself was fashioned to give the elbow/bend appearance as one seamless piece of material.
- One of the home’s standout features is a large circular chimney, which posed an exciting challenge. The custom gutter angle was precisely crafted to match the round chimney, a feat we’re particularly proud of.
- Another hurdle was the awning behind the home, which was built solid into the concrete. It had about a 1-inch clearance, so we had to carefully peel back its cover to both uninstall the old gutters and introduce the new system.
- Due to the style of the roof, there is a metal-color drip edge that runs behind the gutters around the entire home. Per customer request, post-installation, we repainted the entire metal drip edge white around the entire home, ensuring it also matched the new gutters.
